We are seeking a Senior Manager based in Beijing to work with an internationally-focused and diverse research team.

As Senior Manager you will drive research and consulting projects and develop thought leadership to support client engagements. You will manage small and highly-productive project teams to deliver high-quality work to tight timelines. You will demonstrate intellectual leadership in your areas of expertise and work with clients to generate ideas and create impact.
How you will contribute:
- Develop quantitative and qualitative methodologies to generate new analytical insights on key policy and research questions; develop project proposals
- Manage workstreams and provide well informed direction to project teams
- Ensure quality of project deliverables and provide constant feedback to team members
- Generate thought leadership on public policy issues
- Present research findings at client meetings and events
- Support client development teams in identifying new clients, donors or funding sources; grow existing accounts and deepen client relationships
- Manage a team of 3-6 managers and analysts, including on project work and as a mentor and personal development coach
- Support Regional Head in regional planning initiatives and ongoing management tasks
The ideal skills for the role are:
University degree in international relations, political science, economics or other public policy-related discipline- Intimate knowledge of current affairs and public policy issues relating to Economist Impact’s four practice areas (see above), notably as they pertain to China
- 7 years’ experience in a public policy-focused role in a research, journalistic, consulting or advocacy organisation and at least 2 years’ experience in managing people
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to translate complex analysis into accessible content
- Excellent reasoning skills; ability to accurately formulate problem statements and develop methodologies to address critical research questions
- Client management experience; comfortable with client interaction and interest in building relationships
- Proven ability to motivate and supervise project teams, especially under tight deadlines
- Native-level fluency in either English or Mandarin, with excellent working knowledge of the other
Any of the following qualifications would be a plus:
Graduate degree in international relations, political science, economics or other public policy-related discipline- Experience in developing new clients, donors or funding sources in research/consulting
- Data analysis skills (either statistical analysis or computer programming)
- English-language editing skills developed through formal editorial training
